FLY-135 EPE Foam Production Line Successfully Tested for South American Banana Packaging Customer

Oct 28, 2026

A Complete EPE Foam Manufacturing Solution for Banana Packaging and Perforated Protective Pads

FLY Machinery recently conducted a trial run of its FLY-135 EPE Foam Production Line for a customer in South America. The production line is designed to manufacture EPE foam sheets for banana packaging and perforated banana protective pads, helping the customer develop a complete production process from foam extrusion to finished product processing and material recycling.

During the recent machine trial, the FLY-135 EPE foam extrusion machine was configured to produce foam sheets with thicknesses ranging from 1 mm to 5 mm, a working width of 1500 mm, and a production capacity of approximately 120–180 kg/h, depending on production conditions and product specifications.

Beyond supplying individual machines, FLY Machinery provided a complete equipment solution tailored to the customer's product requirements, including EPE foam extrusion, cutting and punching, die punching, and recycling equipment.

1. Customer Requirements: EPE Foam for Banana Packaging

Bananas are sensitive to pressure, friction, and mechanical damage during handling, transportation, and storage. Protective packaging materials play an important role in reducing surface damage and maintaining product quality throughout the supply chain.

The South American customer required an EPE foam production solution capable of manufacturing two main types of products:

  • EPE Foam Sheets for Banana Packaging: Lightweight and flexible foam sheets used for cushioning, wrapping, and protecting bananas during handling and transportation.

  • Perforated EPE Banana Protective Pads: Foam pads processed with punched holes and customized shapes to meet specific banana packaging and protection requirements.

The customer also needed a production system that could accommodate different foam thicknesses and support subsequent cutting, punching, and recycling operations.

After reviewing the customer's product specifications and processing requirements, FLY Machinery recommended the FLY-135 EPE Foam Production Line with supporting downstream equipment.

2. FLY-135 EPE Foam Machine: Technical Specifications

The FLY-135 EPE Foam Machine is designed for the extrusion of expanded polyethylene foam sheets used in protective packaging, cushioning materials, and other industrial applications.

For this South American customer project, the production line was configured with the following specifications:

Parameter Project Specification
Machine Model FLY-135
Machine Type EPE Foam Sheet Extrusion Machine
Foam Material Expanded Polyethylene (EPE)
Product Thickness 1–5 mm
Foam Sheet Width 1500 mm
Production Capacity 120–180 kg/h
Main Application Banana Packaging and Protective Pads
Customer Market South America
Production Solution Foam Extrusion, Cutting, Punching and Recycling

The machine is suitable for producing lightweight foam sheets that can be further processed into customized protective packaging products.

The actual production output may vary depending on foam thickness, density, raw material formulation, and operating conditions.

3. Complete EPE Foam Production Line Supplied by FLY Machinery

To meet the customer's manufacturing requirements, FLY Machinery provided an integrated production solution consisting of four main equipment systems.

Step 1: FLY-135 EPE Foam Extrusion Machine

The FLY-135 EPE Foam Machine is the core equipment of the production line.

Through a controlled extrusion and foaming process, polyethylene raw materials are processed into continuous EPE foam sheets with the required width, thickness, and cushioning characteristics.

For this project, the machine was configured to produce 1500 mm wide foam sheets with thicknesses from 1 mm to 5 mm.

The resulting foam sheets serve as the base material for banana wrapping products and further processing into protective pads.

Step 2: EPE Foam Cutting and Punching Machine

After foam extrusion, the material enters the downstream cutting and punching process.

The EPE Foam Cutting and Punching Machine is used to process foam sheets into the required dimensions and perform perforation operations according to the customer's product design.

This processing stage helps convert continuous foam material into semi-finished or finished banana packaging products.

Step 3: EPE Foam Punching Machine

For banana protective pads requiring customized shapes or additional punched features, the production solution includes a dedicated punching machine.

The equipment processes EPE foam sheets or pre-cut pieces into the required pad designs using suitable punching dies.

By combining cutting and punching equipment, the customer can manufacture different banana packaging products according to specific dimensional and processing requirements.

Step 4: EPE Foam Recycling Machine

Foam cutting and punching operations generate leftover materials and production scraps.

To support material utilization and reduce unnecessary waste, FLY Machinery included an EPE Foam Recycling Machine in the proposed production system.

The recycling equipment processes suitable EPE foam scraps for subsequent material recovery and reuse, subject to the required material quality and production formulation.

This helps the customer establish a more complete manufacturing process while improving material management.

4. Advantages of FLY Machinery's EPE Foam Production Solutions

With nearly 30 years of experience in plastic extrusion machinery and foam processing equipment, FLY Machinery focuses on providing reliable production equipment and customized manufacturing solutions for international customers.

Stable Extrusion and Consistent Foam Quality

FLY Machinery designs its EPE foam extrusion equipment with attention to extrusion stability, temperature control, and material processing consistency.

Stable operating conditions are important for producing foam sheets with consistent thickness, suitable density, and reliable cushioning performance.

Energy-Efficient Drive Technology

FLY Machinery offers advanced drive configurations, including WEG IE4 permanent magnet motor technology on applicable machine models.

These configurations are intended to improve drive efficiency and support more energy-conscious production. Final equipment specifications are selected according to the customer's machine model and project requirements.

Customized Production Line Configuration

Different EPE foam products require different production processes.

FLY Machinery evaluates the customer's target product dimensions, foam thickness, production capacity, and downstream processing requirements before recommending a suitable equipment configuration.

For this South American banana packaging project, the solution integrates extrusion, cutting, punching, and recycling equipment rather than relying on a single machine.

Technical Support and Production Process Guidance

FLY Machinery supports customers with equipment selection, production line planning, machine testing, installation guidance, and technical assistance.

Our engineering team works with customers to develop practical equipment configurations based on their production objectives and application requirements.

Complete Equipment Supply from One Manufacturer

By supplying the core extrusion machine together with downstream processing and recycling equipment, FLY Machinery helps customers simplify equipment sourcing and coordinate the different stages of their EPE foam manufacturing process.

5. Why EPE Foam Is Suitable for Banana Packaging

Expanded polyethylene foam is widely used in protective packaging because of its lightweight structure, flexibility, and cushioning properties.

For banana packaging applications, EPE foam offers several useful characteristics:

  • Cushioning Protection: Helps reduce damage caused by contact, friction, and pressure during handling and transportation.

  • Lightweight Structure: Adds relatively little weight to the overall packaging system.

  • Flexible Processing: Can be cut, punched, and shaped into different protective packaging formats.

  • Thickness Options: Different foam thicknesses can be selected according to the packaging design and required cushioning performance.

  • Material Recovery Potential: Suitable clean production scraps can be collected and processed through an appropriate recycling system.

For banana exporters, distributors, and agricultural packaging manufacturers, EPE foam can be developed into protective sheets, perforated pads, and customized cushioning components.

6. From Machine Trial to Customized Production Solutions

The recent FLY-135 machine trial demonstrates how FLY Machinery approaches customer projects based on actual product requirements.

Instead of simply recommending an extrusion machine, our team considered the complete manufacturing process, including the foam sheet specifications, downstream cutting and punching requirements, and material recycling needs.

The resulting equipment configuration provides the customer with a coordinated solution for producing banana packaging foam sheets and perforated protective pads.

For customers planning to establish or expand an EPE foam manufacturing facility, selecting the right combination of extrusion and downstream equipment is an important step toward efficient production.
